– Let’s Talk About ‘Sweet Obsession’, Yeah? –
Author’s Note: Sweet Obsession can be read as a standalone novel.
Everyone knows Brooke Wicks loves to have a good time. She’s not interested in getting serious, settling down, or limiting herself to one man. So when she meets the sexy, irresistible Mason King, she sees another opportunity to let loose and go wild. But the gorgeous Aussie isn’t interested in just a quick fling with Brooke, and if she wants to get into his bed, she’s going to have to do it on his terms.
Loving fast and hard has always been Mason’s philosophy. He doesn’t want a meaningless connection, he wants it all, and he wants it with Brooke. When she makes her one desire known—to hit it and quit it—Mason wages a plan to ensure Brooke keeps coming back for more. Or so he hopes.
Getting her attention was the easy part. Keeping it might be damn near impossible.
Sweet Obsession is where the Sweet Addiction series meets the Alabama Summer series.
– Let’s Book Talk –
This was definitely an anticipated read. The second I finished When I Fall from the Alabama Series (BamaBoys!), I needed more. I have been a fan of J. Daniels for a while now. She is one of those auto-one-click authors for me. Anything she writes, I’m reading. I first discovered her through the first book in the Sweet Addiction series. Fell in love with Reese and Dylan–especially Reese–and later came across Ben and Mia in the first book of the Alabama series, Where I Belong.
We met Brooke Wicks in Sweet Possession (book two) when she found herself needing a job and her cousin Jules begged Dylan and Joey to let her work at Dylan’s Sweet bakery. Brooke, from what we could gather, was the “irresponsible” party girl who’s never on time and doesn’t even realize that’s not the best work ethic. Somehow, she keeps her job and nearing the end, seems to have found a hidden knack and passion in baking.
Mason…Oh, Mason King is the Hot Yoga Aussie we caught a glimpse of in book two of Alabama series, All I Want. Him and Tessa are now besties and he then moved to (Chicago?), which brings us to our series crossroads in Sweet Obsession.
Going into this read (which arrived hours earlier than midnight which I jumped and squealed about and bought immediately), I loved that I had a very specific picture of the two main characters. Throughout the process of editing this book, J. Daniels made it known who her inspirations for these characters were. OMG, One Tree Hill’s Brooke IS Brooke Wicks–in looks, personality, attitude, antics, everything! It was so cool because I had her perfectly matched in my head while reading. Then, we have this Aussie hottie Yoga man up there who was every bit Mason King.
I loved this book. I loved that we were back in Dylan and Reese’s world and got to see where they are now. They have two ADORABLE little ones and Dylan’s pregnant again! I love the light, sweet setting of being in Dylan’s bakery. I could picture the street we visited so many times throughout, and I could see Mason’s Hot Yoga studio across the street.
It may have been lust at first sight, in EVERY way, but it became Mason’s obsession to not give into Brooke’s MO with guys. He didn’t want to just be another guy she screwed and moved on from. He was determined to break through that wall and show her that there could be more and it could be sweet.
J. Daniel’s is just one of those authors you know will deliver on two things: HOT and SWEET. Her men are determined, strong, and passionate. Knuckle-headed alphas at times but when they know they’ve found something good, the sweetness they give, the love they pour, is beyond beautiful, and pulls at your heart.
If you’ve read this series and/or the Alabama series–them BamaBoys, tho–then for sure, you will LOVE this addition to the pack. If you haven’t, this could be read as a standalone. Trust me, you’ll want to read them all! Start with Sweet Addiction, then read Where I Belong. Give yourself a taste of both series and you’ll be hooked!
That’s all for today! Happy reading. If any of you check these out, let’s chat about it below!
